Dynamo and its Grasshopper equivalent using Rhino.Inside®.Revit

Presented by Marcello Sgambelluri of John A. Martin & Associates (virtual session)

There is a new technology that is emerging in the AECO+ industry. It is called Rhino Inside Revit and it allows Revit to access all of Rhino’s powerful functionally including Grasshopper.

So, we decided to avoid turning this session into another “intro to Rhino.Inside.Revit”. Instead, let’s look at Grasshopper for Revit in a different light. This session will show all of you Dynamo for Revit users how to make equivalent functions in Grasshopper including creating Revit Beams, Revit Walls and even Moose…

Let’s find out what Grasshopper for Revit is really made of!

So if you want to have a fun time please join us and don’t forget to bring all your questions and concerns up to the presenter to keep the session lively.

Contributing to Dynamo – Great 4 part series by matterlab

I wanted to do a quick post to point out this great blog series by matterlab, on their blog (called insights). If you don’t know what matterlab is, well its the latest adventure from Mark Thorley and Radu Gidei, both of designtech fame.

This 4 part series was written by Sylvester Knudsen and is worth a read, and a bookmark for those working with Dynamo and wishing to contribute to the community.

How to contribute to Dynamo for Revit – Part 1

Part 2: Getting started

Part 3: Testing

Part 4: Making a pull request

COVID-19 and DoC Event #008 Update

The Dynamaniacs of Calgary are closely monitoring the ever-changing COVID-19 situation and will be following the guidelines from local health authorities. As a precaution to help limit the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) and support Calgary’s efforts to promote social distancing, all in-person DoC events will be suspended effective immediately, until future notice.

What does this mean for the upcoming DoC Event #008?

The March 25th event will no longer be an in-person event. Instead, we will hold a shortened online only event using a Zoom meeting. Sol Amour of Autodesk has agreed to still give his remote presentation “Dynamo 2.2 and Beyond” followed by a brief Q&A session. This meeting will be recorded and posted after the event for those unable to attend live online. On the day of the event, all registrants will receive an email with the Zoom meeting details.

William Thompson of SAIT has also agreed to give his “Extending Reality – Applications for Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality in AEC” session during our next DoC in-person event when that is possible.

We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding and support.

Time: 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm MDT

Location: Online via Zoom

This will be the second DoC event of the 2019 – 2020 season. Event #008 will feature a remote presentation about Dynamo from  Sol Amour of Autodesk

Session #1

Dynamo 2.2 and Beyond

Presented by Sol Amour of Autodesk (remote session)

Join Autodesk’s Sol Amour, the Product Manager of Dynamo, as he runs through a deep dive presentation on Dynamo 2.2 and beyond. He will showcase the major features and changes made to Dynamo Core that have surfaced inside of host applications such as Revit, showcase the what and why of work done over the past year thematically and explore where Dynamo is headed next.

Sol has experience in a diverse range of fields ranging from Construction through Landscaping, Industrial Design and Architecture and now Software Development. He has focused his career on Education and a technical understanding of complex problems, tempered by carefully considered holistic design. Most of his career has been set within multidisciplinary firms, working on large scale commercial projects, where his focus has been upon communication, clarity and effectiveness between all parties involved – all while delivering outstanding bespoke design solutions. He now works at Autodesk as the Product Manager of Dynamo, responsible for the strategy, vision, direction and growth of Dynamo moving forward.

Sol’s aptitude has lead him down a more technical path, where the use of coding, visual scripting, computation and agile methodologies have allowed him to work smarter, not harder. His ethos is that we should leverage the computational power available to us, to automate many of the back end processes the modern world demands in order to allow us to get back to what we all really want to do – Spend time on the human components of building making; to consider, to think, to play, to feel, and to bring design back to the forefront allowing us to beautifully and holistically enhance the built fabric of our world.
